Curriculum
Curriculum Update for the Week of November 9th:
Reading/Language Arts:
Students will begin Theme #3 in the Storytown Curriculum. The unit theme is “Changing Times.”
Student edition story is the realistic fiction story called Jamaica Louise James.
Story Summary: As a surprise for her grandmother’s birthday, Jamaica Louise James hangs
her painted artwork in the drab subway station where her grandmother works.
The poem for the week is called “A Lazy Thought.”
Poem Summary: In this poem, a child reflects on the busy, hectic life of adults
*The weekly test will be given on Friday, November 13th.
Math:

Students will begin Unit 3 called “Stickers, Number Strings, and Story Problems.”
This week’s lessons will center around Investigation #1.
The Math Focus Points for this Investigations are listed below:
* Using known combinations to add two or more numbers.
* Comparing a number to 20 to find the difference.
* Considering whether reordering three addends results in the same total
* Considering a generation about reordering addends for all numbers
* Using the calculator as a mathematical tool
* Relating the doubles and near-doubles combinations
* Developing fluency with the near-doubles combinations
Science:
Because last week’s schedule had to be adjusted, students will complete the INSECT UNIT TEST this week.
Social Studies:
Students will continue studying Unit 2: “The Government.” They will compare the local, state, and federal government.
